‒ Welcome race fans. We want to apologize for
the long delay in posting updates. We've had a couple of
exciting weeks of racing. Tonight Josh finished in fifth place
and Jon came home with the win.
With the weather finally giving us a chance and not being what felt like 100+ degrees, Josh was ready to race. This being mid-season championship night, the bandits were scheduled for the driver introduction and awards on the front stretch. With all set to race at the drop of the green, the first caution, involving several cars, came out on lap 1 in turn 3. All pulled away except #45 and Josh's #24, and both suffered a lot of damage. For the first time this season Josh’s car was towed off the speedway and was unable to finish the race. Although a bit shaken up, Josh wasn't injured.
At this point Jon had a lot of work to do to get the car ready for his heat. The car's damage involved the loss of 3 tires and rims, inner and outer tie rod and some other lesser repairs. Jon, Josh, Sheena, Dave, and Jeff were able to patch the car up enough to make his heat race. During the heat we learned the #24 also had a bent rear axle. But Jon was on a mission: VICTORY LANE! The feature was one of the best and closest races we have had in a long time. Jon, Woodard and Sharpsteen battled for the top spot lap after lap, side by side, bumper to bumper for what seemed like hours. Jon made a move underneath Woodard for the lead and brought Sharpsteen with him. After gaining the lead, and with just 3 laps remaining, Jon’s #24 began to show smoke -- blowing up just as he came under the checkered flag!
In
Victory Lane we realized that the car had a fire under the hood and
required the safety crew's assistance (thanks to them for their
speedy response in keeping everyone safe). Jon said, "I figured it
was either going to blow up or we might be able to win." He'd
felt something was wrong on lap 3, but decided to ride it out. We've
been running this motor for 4 years, so we were expecting it to go
any time now. We want to thank everyone who assisted us in getting
our car back out on the track. It's times like these that really
show the true spirit of racing, and it's truly an honor to know that
people are willing to help out like this.
SPECIAL THANKS:
To Jeff Palmiter (crew for #50 street stock) for his assistance in
repairing the car; to
Brian Wilson (driver #1 Bandit car) for loaning us parts from his
race car; to Dan Dyke (tow truck driver, race shop owner) for going to his shop
to get us an axle.
Hats off to BLACK ROCK SPEEDWAY and all competitors for a good night
of racing action!
June 28, 2008 ‒
HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY, JON!!!
June 6, 2008 ‒ Racing today was HOT HOT HOT! With the car running on average 220-230 degrees, we had a good night. Josh is getting better and better and is doing a great job at putting on a show. On lap-5 he spun in turn-4, bringing out the yellow. Starting from the rear, he still finished fourth.
Starting 7th in the heat, Jon came away with that win. Then with a starting position of 12th in the the feature he pulled off another astonishing feat, making his way through the field and getting into clean air for another first-place finish! (Saturday, Mark got a win, too, racing a FWD Enduro Car for fun with employees and friends!)
Stay tuned for more updates, and thanks again to our sponsors, friends & family.
June 1, 2008 ‒ Hello J&J race fans. We want to thank everyone for their support through our family's loss. We can move on knowing Luke is safe, happy and watching over his loved ones. He will be missed, but his spirit lives on.
In racing news: Word has come from BRS owner Dean Hoag that Jon is allowed to compete in the 4 cyl division once again! With dad Mark having the head tech inspector's position, we understand this will cause some controversy. That being said, there are two individuals with no ties to our racing team who are ready to step in when needed and oversee teching of the #24.
On 5/23 Josh ran his best race ever, starting mid-pack and battling for the lead half way through. With 4 laps remaining Josh and Cicci's #12 were swapping top spot. Contact was made coming around for the white flag and both almost spun, but they recovered and finished 1-2, with with #12 getting the win. Happy with his best-ever finish, Josh is ready for more! Meanwhile, Jon’s heat earned him a 11th place start for the feature, but a mechanical problem postponed the remaining events for BLACKROCK SPEEDWAY.
On 5/30 Josh started in 8th place and with a very ill-handling car finished 4th. The night proved to everyone that track conditions can change on what seems like on a moment's notice. Jon got back behind the wheel in the heat and finished in the top spot! Scheduled to start 11th in the makeup feature, he was forced to start last instead due to preparing the car and making the lineup late, but he drove a good race and finished a respectable 3rd. For the scheduled feature event, Jon made some slight changes, started 15th, an with the drop of the green was on a mission -- a feature win in Luke's memory. On lap 8 he took over the lead and never looked back, completing his mission and getting the win! This was Jon's first time behind the wheel since his last win at WOODHULL’S 3-day event last year.
We always want to put on a good show for
the race fans, and we thank our fellow competitors for doing the
same. Thanks as well to owner Dean Hoag and BRS.
PLEASE STAY TUNED AND VISIT US AGAIN FOR FUTURE UPDATES!!
May 18, 2008 ‒ A tragic loss
April 30, 2008 ‒ Happy 43rd birthday, Mark!
March 2008 ‒ The 2008 season is fast approaching and it’s time to get things in motion!
This is the beginning of deconstruction for Josh’s car. We have it pretty much taken apart except for the power plant and a couple of miscellaneous items. Although last year's reconstruction started just 2 weeks before the mall show, this year we've actually begun early!
We plan to totally
re-skin Josh’s car and add a brand new power plant, complete from
top-to-bottom, and then begin the conversion on Jon’s car. Pictures
to follow.
We want to give a big welcome back to sponsors Swarthout
Recycling, Quality Welding Supply, John Whiteman
Machine and our web designer Ted Sharack (Day One Marketing).
New for 2008, we are pleased to add Horseheads Pick-A-Part to
our distinguished sponsor list.
Once again, thank you all. Please check back often for updates.
